No, the Penx is not waterproof. Do not immerse the Penx in water or subject it to high humidity. Adapx sells a rugged dock (which can be purchased separately) that when properly closed, will protect the Penx to depth of 5 meters and to an altitude of 40 thousand feet.
If you use the Penx for 1 to 2 hours a day, you should recharge the battery every 3 to 4 days. Recharge the battery every day if you use the Penx for 3 to 4 hours a day.
If the Penx is left unused with the cap on, the battery lasts approximately two months. When the battery is low, a low battery warning LED lights up and the Penx vibrates. If this happens, be sure to recharge the battery before using the Penx.
No, replacing the battery yourself will void the Penx warranty. Under normal conditions, a battery should be rechargeable for about 3 years. Contact Adapx if battery replacement is required.
Yes. Use the hole in the clip of the Penx cap to extract the ball-point pen cartridge.
No. Obtain Penx ink cartridge refills directly from Adapx. The ink cartridge for Penx is unique. It is filled with a pressurized, proprietary ink formula designed for note-taking on our Rite in the Rain® digital notebook, in extreme conditions, and at any angle. (The ink cartridge is manufactured for Adapx exclusively by the Fisher Space Pen Co®.)
The life span of a Penx is about three years. This figure assumes that the Penx is used for three hours a day. (This figure is a guide and varies depending on actual usage.)
Depending on the density of your writing, the memory capacity of the Penx product is approximately 40 pages of 5½" X 8½" paper. We recommend you transfer data to your PC before the memory in your Penx becomes full.
Yes, the Penx vibrates to warn you when the memory is full. If the memory is full, you cannot store new data in the Penx.
The maximum address error the Penx can detect is 1.0mm, or the sum total of the following conditions:
- Anoto® pattern resolution: 0.3mm (dot pitch is 0.3mm)
- Address errors calculated by the locations of the Penx and Anoto patterns vary depending on the angle of the Penx against the paper. The maximum error is 0.7mm.
The Penx vibrates under several conditions:
- When you perform an action with the Penx, such as selecting a New Notebook check box. In this case, the vibration confirms that the Penx will pass on to the computer a request for a New Notebook.
- When you remove the cap from the Penx. The vibration informs you that the Penx is on, charged, and ready for use.
- When the Penx detects a problem or error, such as when you attempt to write on severely damaged paper or the battery is low.
Bluetooth support is currently unavailable.
You can order the notebooks directly from Adapx, or Rite in the Rain.
Currently you need to use the USB docking station supplied with the Penx. Adapx is in the process of certifying an alternate power source that will soon be available for purchase on our website. (Third party power solutions are available on the open market, but they have not yet been certified.)
The warranty for the Penx product is 6 months.
Will I lose any of the documents in the Penx if the battery dies and I don't recharge it right away?
No, the contents remain until you download the documents to a computer or reset the Penx using a Master Reset Procedure.
Yes, unless you have enabled password protection. With password protection enabled, the ink can only be downloaded if the correct password is entered.
After setting a password, the ink cannot be downloaded from the Penx without password validation. If you use a password, include a good hint that will help you remember it. If you lose the password, you must reset the Penx to enter a new one and this deletes the contents of the memory.
The Penx product may contain a pre-installed password to protect your device. The pre-set password is adapx. Use the pen control panel to personalize and change the password. Passwords with mixed numbers, symbols and letters are your best protection with longer passwords being more secure. Be sure to use a good hint to aid your memory since a forgotten password will require that you reset the Penx. Alternately, you can use the control panel to clear any password protection from the device.
I have a 64 bit operating system (Vista or XP). Do the Adapx applications work with my platform?
Currently, our USB pen drivers only work in 32 bit mode. They will not run on a 64 bit platform.
