Q. Why doesn't OneNote convert my ink to text?

ImageA. Your Microsoft XP Operating System may not be configured to support handwriting recognition.  If you would like to use this feature, follow the steps below to download and install Microsoft Handwriting Recognition for XP. For more information, see Windows Help. (NOTE:  If you use a tablet PC with Microsoft OneNote, the feature is installed by default.)

To download the recognition files:

  1. Go to the Microsoft download page for the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Recognizer Pack. If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer, you might need to copy the URL and paste it into Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Microsoft download page, click Continue and follow the instructions to validate your version of Windows.
  3. Follow instructions to start the download and installation process.
  4. During installation, you can choose to load recognizers for multiple languages. To save time and hard disk space, select only the languages you need to add. The English recognizer is added by default.
  5. Restart your computer when prompted.

ImageA. Vista - all versions: Capturx for OneNote requires the Windows user to have administrator privileges for Windows. If you work in an organization and aren’t sure if you have an administrator privileges, please check with your IT department.

Vista Home and Professional editions: Capturx for OneNote works with any edition of Vista, as does Microsoft OneNote. The handwriting recognition functionality within OneNote relies on underlying handwriting recognition software from Microsoft. Microsoft includes that handwriting technology on many editions of Vista, but it does not always come with the Vista Home Edition and Vista Professional Edition.

As part of Capturx for OneNote set-up, Capturx will check to see if your PC has that software from Microsoft installed. If it is not installed, then Capturx Installation will connect to Microsoft.com through the internet to download that software. If an internet connection is unavailable, then Capturx can still be installed and used. To install Microsoft’s handwriting recognition software for OneNote after installation of Capturx, please follow the following link: http://www.adapx.com/support/capturxforonenote/msft_recopack_download.html
