Paper parameters to consider when producing a paper product enabling Anoto functionality are:
- Opacity - Must be high enough, so that the pen does not see print on the backside of the paper or on the following page.
- Color - The color must have high reflection in the IR wavelengths 800– 950 nm, which leads to restrictions on the paper color.
- Surface roughness - Surface roughness of the paper must not be too high. A very rough paper will give dots of low quality.
- Paper and toner interaction - Note: Smearing or scuffing can ruin the Anoto functionality. Therefore the risk for such effects must be considered when choosing paper and toner.
- Uncoated paper with weights > 60g/m, Opacity >88%, Surface roughness, Bendsen (ml/min) between 100– 400
- Pattern toner used must have a high absorption in the wavelengths 800–950 nm. Black toner containing carbon should be used (black standard toners normally contain carbon). For improved contrast, consider a black toner with high pigment content.
- Graphics and text toners used must have low absorption in the wavelengths 800–950 nm. Examples of toners allowed: Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Examples of toners not allowed: Black toners containing carbon, Metallic toners or any other toner absorbing IR light.
For optimized printing with Capturx, printers should have Postscript functionality. Color printers work best for printouts with large area of text or graphics. (Example: maps, diagrams, etc.) We have tested and found compatible printers from leaders such as HP, Okidata, Oce, Ricoh and Canon. We continue to test compatible printers and our list is updated and expanded on a continual basis.

Please Contact Sales for assistance, if you would like to learn more about your current printer’s capabilities with Capturx Software or other printers that you may currently have access to. A Sales Rep will assist you in finding a simple printer solution that will work for you.
Custom Printing If you have unique digital paper printing requirements, Adapx—a Certified Anoto Provider—can work with you to produce custom, high-quality, and large-volume runs.
Before you start to print, you should check a number of issues further described in the Printing with Capturx Overview.
To summarize, important issues to check are:
- The paper product has been designed for optimal pen decoding, see 1 above.
- The printer recommendations have been set-up on the printer to be used.
- Conserve paper on wide format printers by selecting the to remove blank areas.
- The toners selected for printing follows the recommendations, see section 1.
Question: Which versions of Windows are able to run Capturx?
Answer: Capturx is designed for the US version of Windows XP or Vista with SP2. Capturx Forms for Excel can run on the Canada English and UK English versions of Windows, as well.
Question: Why am I having problems printing?
Answer: Some printer cost tracking can interfere with how your PC communicates with printers, by creating a file to store before it sends the job to a print queue. For best results, please disable printer cost tracking when using Capturx.
Question: I generally print to my standard printer(s) by specifying the printer using its IP address (e.g. //192.168.27.03). I already know the printer is Capturx compliant, yet I cannot print using the Capturx printing dialogues.
Answer: Capturx uses Microsoft’s WDM (Windows Driver Model) when communicating with printers. Both of the methods described in the questions by pass the WDM and are incompatible with Capturx. To print with Capturx, you must install a WDM driver for your printer on your PC. The simplest way to do this is to use the Windows add printer wizard; this wizard is available through the printers and faxes control.
